ISOM is a full-time Islamic School and its doors are open to all students regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion. We live in a pluralistic society and firmly believe in practicing tolerance.

Our belief is based on the command of Allah (swt) when He says:
“O Mankind! We have created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know each other…..” (40:13)
We seek your support, as parents, with prayers to Allah (swt) to make our joint efforts successful in raising generations of Muslims that follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions.

A Brief History of the Islamic School of Miami

Masjid Al Nour at ISOM traces its beginnings to the mid-1980s, when a small group of dedicated brothers and sisters sought to provide quality Islamic education for Muslim youth in South Miami-Dade. In 1985, two Muslim sisters opened a small school in a rented community hall. By 1989, Muslim educators launched a weekend school under the Institute for Islamic Education and Research at South Miami Middle School. Enrollment quickly grew to nearly 200 students, with a curriculum including Quranic Arabic, recitation, memorization, Seeratun Nabiyyi, and Islamic Studies.

As the Muslim population in the region expanded during the 1990s, the need for a more structured Islamic school became urgent. In 1994, Muslim educators from Florida International University and Miami-Dade Public Schools, in collaboration with the FIU Muslim Students Association, established ISOM. Classes began at FIU’s South Miami-Dade campus, and in 1995, ISOM was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, committed to nurturing faith, education, and community.
